A complete R. F. site survey should be undertaken by an expert. It requires specialist tools, including RF analysers, measurement tools and other equipment. A complete site survey is a non trivial task that can take considerable time dependent on the size of the site.

Cell planning, undertaken after the site survey is done to ensure the mobile workers can obtain a continuing good RF signal as they move through the facility. The RF survey defines the contours of coverage from access points, wireless bridges and wireless clients. It also needs to include determination of interference sources equipment placement, power considerations, and wiring requirements. The result is a guide for the network design team that is specific to the site being considered.

Important steps include:

Reviewing building plans and documentation

· Documenting the existing network infrastructure

· Evaluating RF emission sources and levels including heavy equipment and reviewing possible structural impediments to transmission, such as steel girders large equipment installations, and the like

· The planning of RF cells and cell locations

· Documentation of all survey details

· A complete RF site survey should produce:

· Detailed maps of RF the coverage contoured for given power level settings

· Optimal locations for access points can,

· Access point types to be used

· Antenna types for use with access points and the

· Access point power outputs

· Required cables and connectors

· Items such as RF band selection, access point co-location, possible use of non- overlapping channels, cell size, power level control for staged DRS antenna selection, and antenna orientation all need to be documented.
